PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GENERAL IN CHICAGO COMMEMORATES THE 62ND ANNIVERSARY OF THE ENACTMENT OF THE US RESCISSION ACT OF 1946 |

26 February 2008 - The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago held a program to commemorate the 62nd Anniversary of the Enactment of the U.S. Rescission Act of 1946 at the Consulate’s Social Hall on 22 February.
The program included welcome remarks by Philippine Consul General Blesila C. Cabrera followed by a reading of the statement of Ambassador Willy C. Gaa. Consul General Cabrera cited the Filipino-American community and the Chicago Filipino-American media for their efforts to contact their legislators and to disseminate information about the two bills, H.R. 760 and S.1315. Rev. Telesforo Yague, a Filipino WWII veteran gave an invocation.
Mr. Jerry Clarito, Skokie Parks
Commissioner and Executive Director of the Illinois Veterans Equity Center,
spoke about the efforts of the Filipino – American community and stressed the
importance of contacting the U.S. legislators to secure their co-sponsorship of
the bills. Rev. Yague and another veteran, Mr. Emilio Garcera, thanked the
Consulate, media and the public for continuously supporting the veterans.
The program was attended by Filipino WWII veterans, officers and staff of the Consulate, television, print media and the public. Other Filipino veterans who attended the program were: Mr. Francisco Obina, Mr. Mariano M. Nazareno, Mr. Dominador Ramirez, Mr. Catalino Macaralay, Mr. Feliciano Saguiped, Mr. Fortunato Mallari and Mr. Jose Juachon. Col. Richard A. McMahon, President of the Maywood Bataan Day Organization also attended the event.
The documentary “A Moral Debt,” was shown. Light refreshments were served after the film showing. END
