PHILIPPINE EMBASSY IN ANKARA COMMEMORATES

THE 22ND ANNIVERSARY OF THE EDSA PEOPLE POWER REVOLUTION

26 February 2008 The Philippine Embassy in Ankara held a flag-raising ceremony at the chancery on 26 February in observance of the 22nd Anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.

Philippine Ambassador to Turkey Bahnarim A. Guinomla together with Mrs. Berly Guinomla and the officers, staff, local employees and guests began the ceremony with the singing of the national anthem led by Third Secretary and Vice Consul Leilani S. Feliciano.

This was followed by Ambassador Guinomla’s reading of “Reaffirming the Vision:  A Community at Peace, A Nation in Progress” by Alex Magno, Commissioner of the EDSA People Power Commission.

The ceremony was capped with a hearty Filipino breakfast of tapa, sinangag at itlog (tapsilog) as well as cheese, honey, and local Turkish bread.  Ambassador Guinomla brought the cheese, said to be the best in Turkey, and the honey, which was a favorite of the Ottoman sultans, from Kars, eastern Turkey, where he joined a familiarization tour of Ankara-based diplomats.
