PHILIPPINE EMBASSY IN OTTAWA MARKS

EDSA PEOPLE POWER ANNIVERSARY

28 February 2008 – Philippine Ambassador to Canada Jose S. Brillantes led a flag-raising ceremony at the Philippine Embassy in Ottawa to mark the 22nd anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.

The Embassy’s officers and staff all donned Filipiniana attire for the occasion, where they were joined by Filipino community leaders representing the Philippine Centre Canada, Philippine Heritage Foundation of Canada, Order of the Knights of Rizal and Himig Pilipino Choral Ensemble. Mr. Edwin Acuna, editor-in-chief of the Filcom newspaper Pinoy Eh!, was on hand to cover the event.

In Ambassador Brillantes’ remarks during the flag ceremony, he said that the “continuing spirit of EDSA” is embodied in the exercise of freedom and democracy.  Ambassador Brillantes said that EDSA’s ideal is to inspire Filipinos, whether at home or abroad, to aim for peace and unity as the country continues to score gain after economic gain.

Embassy personnel and guests partook of an all-Pinoy breakfast following the ceremony. END
