BAYANIHAN DANCE TROUPE PERFORMANCE CULMINATES

DIAMOND ANNIVERSARY OF RP-DENMARK DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS

19 March 2008 - The Philippine Embassy in Oslo culminated the year-long celebration of the 60th Anniversary of RP-Denmark Diplomatic Relations with the world-class performance of the Bayanihan Philippine National Folk Dance Company at the Bella Center in Copenhagen on15 March with gala and matinee performances.

 

The event was graced by the Diplomatic Corps, the Filipino community, businessmen, tour operators and top officials from the Danish Ministry of Social Welfare and Department of Integration Services of the Copenhagen Kommune.

 

Danish Head of Section of the Copenhagen Kommune, Ms. Katja t’Felt and Ambassador Victoria Bataclan hailed the long-standing and strong relations betweeen the Philippines and Denmark, highlighting excelllent opportunities in furthering cultural exchanges between both countries and the importance of harnessing community spirit and cooperation with the growing Filipino Community in Denmark.

 

The Bayanihan perforamnce was attended by an international audience of 500 people.

 

Department of Tourism Undersecretary Oscar Palabyab underscored the friendly ties that existed between the Philippines and Denmark and promoted the Philippines as an ideal travel destination for Danes.

 

We are all eager to send Danish travellers to this paradise on earth,” added Ms. Xenia Lund, the Executive Manager of Profil Rejser AS, one of the biggest travel agencies in Denmark which has sent a delegation to the Philippines recently to explore the country.

 

The Philippine Embassy also presented a powerpoint presentation which promoted the recent visit to Donsol of HRH Prince Consort Hendrik  of Denmark to oversee the tagging and tracking project of whale sharks in the area – a joint project of WWF Philippines and WWF Denmark  which the Prince Consort chairs.

 

The performance was an all encompassing cultural showcase of the country, featuring Philippine folk-dances and songs from  as far north as the Cordillera region to those from the T’boli tribe of the south. END
