PHILIPPINE AMBASSADOR UNVEILS ARTWORKS OF FILIPINO ARTIST

19 March 2008 – Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia Victoriano M. Lecaros reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that the solo art exhibition of Filipino painter Frederick Epistola was officially launched at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Center on 10 March.  Ambassador Lecaros unveiled the artworks together with Mr. Peter Honegg, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mercedes Benz Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., the event’s main sponsor.

The one-week exhibit entitled, “Global Compact: Helping Improve Lives through a Fusion of Art and Innovation”, is a fund-raising event which aims to benefit the Puppet for Peace Program of UNESCO Club of Metro Manila and a chosen charity project of Mercedes Benz Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.

Mr. Epistola is a prolific visual artist who uses objects from different contexts and randomly places them on a plane, thus creating imagery reflective of both spontaneity and consciousness. In 2006, two of Mr. Epistola’s works were included in the permanent collection of the prestigious International Museum of Collage, Assemblage and Construction based in Texas, USA. His works can also be found in the collection of the Union of Young Peace Builders based in Switzerland.

Ambassador Lecaros expressed hope that the Malaysian audience would continue to be exposed to Philippine art as more Filipino artists like Mr. Epistola bridge cultural understanding through their work. END
