| ASEAN BAZAAR AND FOOD FESTIVAL HELD IN DOHA |
|
25 March 2008 – The ASEAN Ambassador’s Group in Doha composed of Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines, and the Charge d’Affaires of Brunei and Singapore successfully held an ASEAN Bazaar and Food Festival, “A Taste of ASEAN Crafts and Flavors” at the Philippine International School in Qatar on 07 March 2008. Gracing the event were members of the diplomatic corps.
The ASEAN Embassies and their communities, including those with commercial establishments in Doha, sold handicrafts, souvenir items and popular cuisine from the region during the occasion.
An entertainment show featured traditional and contemporary music and dance from the ASEAN region. Local talents from each ASEAN member community performed the “Sinulog” street dancing from the Philippines, “Blessings Dance” from Thailand, and “Tari Pendet” – Balinese welcome dance from Indonesia. A mini-fashion show of traditional dresses from Indonesia and Malaysia was also presented.
As a symbol of the cordial relations between Qatar and the ASEAN, the Qatar Folk Creativity Centre participated in the bazaar by showcasing some of its traditional handmade crafts, weaves, drawing, cuisine, and artwork by local artists.
Bazaar entry stubs entitled the participants to a chance to win any of the two round-trip tickets to Cebu and Kuala Lumpur, courtesy of Qatar Airways.
The event was the final ASEAN activity of the Group under the Chairmanship of the Philippines. The Philippines handed over the Chairmanship of the ASEAN Ambassadors’ Group to Singapore. END.
