RP’S BAYANIHAN DANCE COMPANY PERFORMS IN STOCKHOLM |

25 March 2008 – The Philippine Embassy in Stockholm reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that the Bayanihan Philippine Folk Dance Company performed for a jampacked audience of more than 600 persons at Stockholm’s famed Nybrakajen Theater on 12 March 2008.
The 12-member group of 8 dancers and 4 musicians performed a five-suite repertoire of indigenous and Spanish-influenced dances with excellence, versatility, and grace. The Bayanihan lived up to its reputation of being the Philippines’ premier folk dance company for the past 52 years.
The Philippine Embassy organized the Bayanihan’s performance at Nybrakajen Theater which was the culmination of an events–packed two-day visit to Stockholm.
A Travel and Tourism Mart was held at the Konferens Sparvagnhallarna Convention Center on 11 March 2008. Tourism Undersecretary Oscar Palabyab led a delegation of tourism officials and Philippine travel agents who met with members of the Swedish travel industry to intensify sales of tourism packages to the Philippines.
On 12 March, Bayanihan presented a live performance in “Nyhetsmorgon”, a popular morning television show. The group’s performance of two suites at different time intervals was broadcast nationwide.
At noontime, Ambassador Maria Zeneida Angara Collinson hosted a well-attended luncheon for Stockholm’s Lady Ambassadors at a local restaurant. The event was highlighted by the Bayanihan Foundation’s donation of 3 Philippine costumes, which will form part of the permanent exhibit of the dance museum.
The Philippine folk dance company proceeded to Gothenburg on 13 March 2008 for its one-day performance at the TUR Travel Exhibition 2008, the leading annual travel and trade fair in Scandinavia participated in by hundreds of travel agents from some 100 countries. END.
