QATAR’S CLEAN AND GREEN PROJECT |

28 March 2008—The Philippine Embassy in Doha reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that the 7th Mangrove Tree Planting and Beach Cleaning Project was held in Al Dhakira, Qatar on 22 March 2008.
Since its inception in 2000, the annual environmental undertaking is sponsored by RasGas and Qatar Gas. This year’s tree planting was participated in by almost 900 individuals, majority of whom were from the Filipino community. The project is spearheaded by the Philippine School Doha in cooperation with the Embassy.
Opening the event were Ambassador Isaias Begonia and Al Khor Community Director Mohammed Al-Khaldy. Other guests at the event were from local government offices and representatives of sponsor companies.
The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture supplied the 1,000 mangrove samplings which were planted along the beach line of Al Dhakira.
After the tree planting, a charity raffle draw was held for the benefit of ABS-CBN Bantay Bata project during the luncheon at Ras Gas Community Sports Club. The amount of QR 4,000 equivalent to Php 44,000 was raised for charity. END.
