| PHILIPPINE SOUTH SEA PEARLS SHINE AT THE BASELWORLD 2008 | |

06 May 2008—BASELWORLD 2008, the world’s largest trade show for watch and jewellery industry, bedazzled visitors at the Exhibition Center in Basel, Switzerland from 3 to 10 April 2008.
About 2,087 watch and jewelry exhibitors from 45 countries, including Jewelmer, well-known Philippine producers of South Sea Pearls and other jewelries, were among the exhibitors that unveiled their latest designs and collections at BASELWORLD. During her meeting with Jewelmer representatives, Philippine Ambassador to Switzerland Minerva Jean A. Falcon said that “BASELWORLD provides an exclusive opportunity for the Philippines, the third largest pearl-producing country in the world, to showcase and promote the beauty and elegance of its South Sea Pearls to the international market.”
At BASELWORLD’s opening ceremony, Swiss Federal Councillor Doris Leuthard, Head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, emphasized the significant contribution to the Swiss economy of the Swiss watch industry (Switzerland’s third-largest commercial sector), whose export volume rose to CHF16 billion in 2007. She expressed confidence that BASELWORLD 2008 will again provide a unique high point for the Swiss watch trade and associated supply industry.
Over 100,000 buyers and over 2,500 media representatives from 100 countries attended the successful trade show. END
