Philippine Artists Group of Canada Celebrates 30th Year
Consul General Rosalita S. Prospero and Dr. Eillen De Villa, Medical Medical Officer of Health of Toronto Public Health, cut the ribbon to officially open the art exhibit.
TORONTO 28 June 2018 — To celebrate its 30th founding anniversary and the 120th anniversary of the declaration of Philippine independence, the Philippine Artists Group of Canada held an annual exhibit at the Neilson Park Creative Centre in Etobicoke, Ontario on 23 June 2018.
The Philippine Artist Group of Canada is the oldest Filipino-Canadian art club, officially formed on 12 June 1988 to foster fellowship among its members, and to promote visual art to the Filipino-Canadian community.
In his speech, current Philippine Artist Group President Gene Lopos emphasized that the organization has “served as a home for new and aspiring artists” and helped “bring awareness of the value of the visual arts.”
In her remarks, Consul General Rosalita S. Prospero noted the importance of freedom of expression in all kinds of media, including the visual arts. She noted that artists of Filipino descent contribute to the beautiful cultural landscape of Canada. END
