16 September 2016 — The incoming Ambassador of Sweden to the Philippines Harald Fries presented his open letter of credence to Foreign Secretary Perfecto R. Yasay, Jr. on September 13.  

Ambassador-designate Fries has previously been posted to the Philippines, having served as Second Secretary at the Embassy of Sweden in Manila from 1991 to 1995.  The Embassy of Sweden closed in 2008 but is set to re-open on November 08.

During their meeting, Secretary Yasay also expressed appreciation for Sweden’s continued support for the Mindanao Peace Process. Sweden is one of the top contributors to the Mindanao Trust Fund, which supports social and economic recovery in conflict-affected communities of Mindanao. END
